Designed to be ultra-long and extremely forgiving, the TaylorMade 2009 Burner irons have already drawn rave reviews from TaylorMade's staff players who tested them over the winter. A similar response from the golfing public seems inevitable.
In creating the new irons, designers started at the very beginning, taking the troublesome 4-iron and working on a way to make it longer and easier to hit than ever before.
A larger head, a thinner face and wider sole helped achieved this, and with the 4-iron taken care of, the same principle of optimisation was then applied to all the other clubs in the set.
Using precisely calculated combinations of loft, weight, length, size, sole width and offset, not to mention the implementation of the existing driver and iron technology, TaylorMade redesigned all eight irons to be the very best they could be, rather than having identical clubs with progressively higher lofts.
By the time they reached the short irons, the topline and sole had been thinned and the head made much more compact to give more control on those crucial approach shots. It sounds like an obvious thing to do but so many irons just don’t feature this level of detail.
But standing on the course with one in your hand you’re more likely to be thinking simply that it looks like a great iron rather than marvelling at the thousands of hours of R&D.
At address it really does inspire confidence, with a simple white alignment aid drawing the eye to the back of the ball. The moody black carbon and silver finish looks fantastic, while the bevelled edges of the sole will certainly let the more accomplished player know that a degree of workability has not been left on the cutting room floor.
No wonder TaylorMade themselves expect this to be their most played iron on Tour.
At impact, the 2009 Burner irons feel incredibly solid and powerful, and even shots that aren’t middled really fly off the face.
But for all their forgiveness and ease of use, the Burner irons are all about distance, and there is no question that these are seriously long. Yes, the lofts have been tweaked but the distance gaps between irons are now more consistent and the ball flight is pleasingly high. If you are looking to add some length to your game, you can't go wrong.
Now, we offer the TaylorMade 09 Burner irons with a discout price $483.99. Besides, our site provides discount golf clubs for our customers.
